This season, all students including former participants are being asked to audition for the orchestra. It is not our intent or desire to eliminate any former players. The new conductor would simply like to hear everyone play in order to assess the abilities of the orchestra and to choose potential repertoire. The new conductor would also like to start the season with strings only, with the possibility of adding winds and percussion later in the year.

The audition requirements for string players are:

1) A solo piece 3 to 5 minutes long. It can be anything, including the etudes and excerpts required for the All-State Orchestra auditions or the SCMEA Regional Orchestra auditions. Each student is encouraged to choose music that will display his or her ability and at the same will allow the student to be comfortable and confident.

2) Two scales. These are intended to demonstrate technique, facility and intonation. They may be major or minor, but it is expected that at least one scale be 3 octaves.

3) Sight-reading. Each student will be given 30 seconds to look over the part and then will be expected to play.
