CALLING ALL SINGERS!

Founded in 2006, the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra Chorus is an auditioned chorus of professional and professionally-trained vocalists from around the Lowcountry who are dedicated to performing classical, opera, and contemporary choral literature with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Dustin Ousley, accompanied by Lauren Stuligross, serves as Chorus Director for the 2024-2025 Season. Gayle Lang manages the HHSOC. Now entering their eighteenth season, this highly acclaimed ensemble continues to expand their repertoire and their love of music, while striving to set the highest standard for performance and professionalism.

Under the baton of Maestro John Morris Russell since 2012, the HHSOC is featured in both the HHSO holiday and spring concerts, having performed Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Brahms’ A German Requiem, Poulenc’s Gloria, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, an Evening of Great Italian Choruses and Gilbert and Sullivan, and a panoply of classic choral works for Holiday Pops including selections from Handel’s Messiah and the original soundtrack to the motion picture, The Polar Express. This coming season the HHSOC is joined by the Claflin University Concert Choir for Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.

2024-25 season concerts are: Holiday Pops, Nov. 30, Dec. 1, 2, 2024 and Carmina Burana, April 28, 29, 2025. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 7-9, October- April. You also have the option to submit a video audition. 

Please record a short video of yourself singing

1)  a classical piece of your choosing which best shows off your vocal talents, vocal range and musicality. This can be an art song, solo aria from an oratorio or opera, or an extract from a choral work in which your voice part is prominent, sung in French, German, Italian or Latin.

2) a song in English from the American Songbook, folk songs, or Musical Theatre.

–Pieces may be a cappella or accompanied.

–Sing straight through the recordings—no post-production editing should be used. A recording on a smart phone is fine.

–Please label your recording “Last Name, First Name, 2024” and use the subject line “HHSOC Audition” when submitting to Gayle Lang, Manager, at diva.gkl7@gmail.com

–For consideration for our first concert of the season, please submit by September 23, 2024.
