PRESIDENT’S ANNUAL REPORT

First, I must thank all of you for your consistent and enthusiastic support this year! Thanks also go to the Board of Directors of the HHSO, Chairman Mike Harter, and the entire staff of the HHSO who supported The League at every turn. They provide patronage, information, resources, and the gift of their time!

We must all also give a huge vote of thanks to the Board of Directors of The League:

Nancy Millette, Joyce Prange, Jane Waltz, Bill Millhaem, Jeffrie Natale, Eileen Durkin, Carol McCarthy Bret Jacobowitz, Mike Kling, Anne Millhaem, Laura Kling, Carol Gyllenhoff, Dahlia Handman, Marty Neumeister,  Mike Caporal, Kathy Zurilla, and Stan Cooke.

Events presented by The League this year included:

SIX Musicales in venues provided by League members

SWING For the Symphony, our annual golf tournament, this year at Wexford Golf Club

FOUR Post-Concert Receptions

SPRING Fashion Show, Luncheon and Silent Auction

FOUR Newsletters

SUPPORT for Concours D’Elegance

Without their work, we would not have accomplished – and exceeded our goals this year. At the beginning of the year, we pledged to raise $60,000 for the HHSO and to support the symphony through increased volunteerism, community outreach and community recruitment.

Our volunteer time contributed to supporting HHSO events like Symphony Under the Stars,  International Piano Competition, Youth Concerto Competition, and Youth Concerts. These hours are valued by the federal government at more than $90,000 of work time!

In addition, we were able to make a cash donation of $90,000 to the HHSO!!! Thank you, again for your work, your time, and your support!

Looking forward for this next year, I would like to start a theme, “Each One Reach One.”  It is critical that each one of us who loves the HHSO, reach out to others. We need to spread the word about the existence, quality and diversity of our symphony. It is amazing how many people in the area don’t even know that we have a symphony, and that they provide diverse musical experiences throughout the year! And of course, we want to recruit as many new League members as possible and you can do that!!

The membership year for The League runs July 1 through June 30. That means that it is definitely time to renew your membership! In order to save the expense of printing and postage, this year we are going electronic! Watch for an upcoming email with specific instructions about how to renew your membership and how to get in touch if you need assistance with the new format.

As I close for this season, I want you to know that it is has been my pleasure to lead this group, and I will continue on next year, along with Nancy Millette, Administrative VP; Jane Waltz, Membership VP; Joyce Prange, Fundraising VP; and Bill Millhaem, Treasurer. We welcome Pam Schofield, Secretary; Becky Hauk, Volunteer Coordinator; and Peggy Moon, IPC Liaison.

THANK YOU!!!

For the Fourth Edition of the League of the Hilton Head Symphony’s “Swing FORE the Symphony” Golf Tournament!

We thank you for your past participation and we hope you will join us again in supporting the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra by playing in or sponsoring the League’s Swing FORE the Symphony Golf Tournament.

This year’s tournament will be held on Tuesday, November 12th at Moss Creek, in celebration of their 50th anniversary. We will play on the Devil’s Elbow South Course, designed by George Fazio, opened in 1975, which has hosted the LPGA Moss Creek Women’s Invitational, the Lowcountry Intercollegiate and the South Carolina State Senior Men’s Amateur. Referred to by Golf Digest as “a beauty with a bite,” much of the South Course stretches along the lovely salt marshes along the Intercoastal Waterway and Mackay Creek.

If you want to get an early start on golfer registration, here’s the link: https://runsignup.com/Race/SC/HiltonHeadIsland/SwingForeTheSymphony)

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Jon and Sally Wormley

Jon and Sally Ann Wormley have lived on Hilton Head twice for a total of 13 plus years. Jon from Iowa and Sally Ann from Rhodesia [now Zimbabwe] met in South Africa, and married in London. They ended up in the Low Country when Sally Ann, visiting her friend living in Bluffton, decided to take a look at housing as Jon had already decided to retire from his overseas positions of 17 years. Not having been to Hilton Head he was surprised to get one of those 1 am (UK time) calls from Sally Ann telling him she had purchased a home in Leamington. What do you say!!  After relocating to the Island, they soon joined the Orchestra’s Monday night performances. Music, having had box seats at the Royal Albert Hall in London, had always been a part of their life. Now, they had a real need to fill the music void. And it did.

After a brief hiatus, Jon and Sally Ann, returned to HHI about 10 years ago.  They immediately ordered tickets for the monthly Orchestra’s performances. They volunteered for the League’s first Golf Charity Committee and continue to support the League and HHSO by continuing to volunteer with the League’s Golf charity event and recently their hosting of MUSICALE #6 – HEAVENLY HARPSICHORD in their home.
