Violin legend Jaime Laredo and the renowned Laredo-Robinson-Polonsky Trio return to the Lowcountry for a concert of favorite concertos with the HHSO. Maestro Laredo leads the program, performing the Bach Violin Concerto in A minor from the podium, and conducting Fauré’s Elegy with Sharon Robinson and the Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 1 with Anna Polonsky. The program concludes with the audacious Beethoven “Triple” concerto with all three soloists. Orchestral music from the baroque and classical eras, like the pieces on this program, were routinely performed without a conductor in their day, which brings a sense of intimacy and immediacy to the works. Laredo’s ability to play with utmost elegance, create a cohesive whole with the ensemble, and charm an audience simultaneously is a wonderment to behold.
“Laredo played with his trademark shimming silvery sound, subtle nuances, and natural expressiveness…Robinson added passionate brilliance. Polonsky was the anchor with her solid technique and natural musicality.” – Jim Lowe, Rutland Herald
