Enrique Graf, Piano
Claude Debussy Prélude à “L’après-midi d’un faune” (Prelude to the Afternoon of a Fawn)
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Piano Concerto No. 17, K. 453, G Major
Claude Debussy La Mer (The Sea)
The HHSO concert season concludes with one of Debussy’s most iconic works, La Mer, “the sea”. This monument of musical impressionism brilliantly portrays the varied moods, movement, light, and reverberations of water, wind, and waves. The three movements, “From Dawn to Noon on the Sea”, “Play of the Waves”, and “Dialogue of Wind and Sea”, are as much about the sound and sights associated with the ocean as they are about the feeling we all have in its presence. The extraordinary orchestration presents a virtuosic showpiece for orchestra that is dramatic and sublime. Music Director JMR will also lead Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun” to begin the program, with it’s gorgeous setting of flute and harp solos. Celebrated pianist Enrique Graf joins JMR and the HHSO in the charming Piano Concerto No. 17 in G Major by Mozart.
