Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 9, Op. 125, D minor, “Choral”
Celebrating the bicentennial of the 1824 premiere of arguably one of the most significant contributions to human culture, the HHSO presents Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, the “Ode to Joy.” Music Director John Morris Russell leads two performances, including singers from throughout the region and across the continent: Elizabeth Baldwin, Lisa Chavez, Jeremy Brauner, and Javier Arrey from the Sherrill Milnes’ Savannah VOICE Festival, and a chorus of exceptional singers from South Carolina’s vaunted HBCU, Claflin University and the HHSO Chorus under the direction of John Morris Russell.
“This singular work expresses Beethoven’s deepest desire for unity, hope, and joy among all people. Its spiritual essence invokes our connectedness between earth and heaven, of humanity and the divine.” – HHSO Music Director, John Morris Russell
