PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:  Because Music Feeds the Soul

As another symphony season begins, I am honored to continue as President of The League of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra for another year. For over 25 years, the mission of the League has been to support the HHSO through fundraising, community outreach and volunteerism. As you may have learned last year, it is because I came from a music background and a family of musicians (teachers and performers), and the fact that I attended concerts at Lincoln Center while in high school, and the Kennedy Center as an adult, that I recognize the outstanding quality of the HHSO!

Each year at this time, I try to set goals for The League. This year, in addition to trying to match our fundraising accomplishment of last season and continuing our volunteerism, I am pursuing an “Each One Reach One” initiative. We need to renew all of our supportive efforts for the symphony: community understanding and recognition, League membership, volunteerism, and especially concert/event attendance.

It is well known that the best way to increase attendance and participation is through word of mouth and enthusiastic endorsement. That means that I am asking Each One of you to Reach out to One (or more) and bring them to The League and to an HHSO concert!!!! It doesn’t take much effort — just enthusiastic word of mouth, and everyday hospitality (which we are known for here in our community).

There will be two community building non-fundraising events for League members, and many opportunities to volunteer to support The League efforts and to support our HHSO This year, we will sponsor: our first ever Member Brunch, a non-fund-raising, community-building event on September 20; Musicales, recitals and varied genre in the homes of members; participation in community outreach events in neighborhoods; and volunteerism of League members.

Our fourth annual golf tournament, Swing Fore The Symphony will take place on November 12, 2024 at Moss Creek Golf Club! Kitchens of Note will return this year in March to be held in Port Royal Plantation featuring the opportunity to see gorgeous kitchens/homes and tastings provided by local chefs!

Please participate! We cannot do any of this without you!!

Please join us for this Season’s fundraising events:

Swing for the Symphony Golf Tournament at the venerable and simply gorgeous Moss Creek Golf Club, celebrating their 50 th anniversary this year, on Tuesday November 12, 2024. The preview party is a separate event and will take place in one home on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Musicales are Coming

A Cole Porter lyric captures the essence of Musicales, “It’s delightful. It’s delicious. It’s de-lovely!”  Our 2023-2024 season was a sell-out!

Many thanks to our gracious hosts: Stan Cooke, Mary and Mike Briggs, Pam Schofield, Joyce and John Prange, Becky & Steve Schuckenbrock, and Sally Ann and Jon Wormley. Your homes are de-lovely.   We also thank all of you who provided delicious goodies for the receptions. Finally, we thank Mario Incorvaia and the musicians who entertained us with such delightful programs. Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our generous sponsors. Thank you all for supporting The League of the HHSO.

Now, we look forward to another season of amazing music. Information regarding ticket sales will be mailed out in early September.  We anticipate another sell-out season, so get your requests in quickly!

Eileen Durkin and Carol McCarthy

Post-Concert Receptions

An exciting concert season is upon us, and we are going to celebrate it with six post-concert receptions. They will follow the opening concert, the Holiday Pops concert, the Judy Garland concert, the Carmina Burano concert, the IPC finals and the finale of the season. Joann McElravy, Sarah Meyer and I will captain the receptions.

There are multiple opportunities to get involved: we need people to bring food (three dozen cookies or sweets), help set up, pour punch, and clean up at the end of the evening. We welcome anyone who would like to be involved. If you want to participate, please call me at 843 415 5361.

Thank you so much for joining us in this endeavor.
