Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra
Link Up Program and Young Persons Concerts
“THE ORCHESTRA MOVES”
April 30, 2024
Attended by over 1,600 Beaufort County Elementary Students
Young people have always been at the heart of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra’s mission.
“INSPIRING young musicians through opportunities to perform and be recognized”
“ENRICHING THE COMMUNITY through youth programs.”
Locally, the HHSO engages face-to-face with young people through an initiative called Music Bridges with the goal to awaken musical excitement in the 10,000+ students across the Beaufort school system through LIVE musical experiences. Music Bridges provides opportunities to meet professional musicians, learn about musical instruments and experience our orchestra in live performances.
In 2023, the HHSO continued its partnership with Carnegie Hall to deliver the highly successful Link Up program to nine Beaufort County Elementary Schools. The program introduces 3rd through 5th grade students to the orchestra by way of an interactive curriculum through which they learn to sing and play an instrument in their own classrooms before performing with a professional orchestra from their seats during an exciting end-of-year concert! This year’s theme “The Orchestra Rocks” took each student into an inter-stellar orchestra performance in which they became an active participant.
This enriching experience would not have been possible without the generous support from The First Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head, The Bargain Box, The Music Performance Trust Fund, and the Mary Briggs Youth Foundation!
